Support Buddy Aaron Larrier in His Fight Against Human Rights Violations
The Issue
We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with Buddy Aaron Larrier, an Afrikan Barbadian citizen and long-term resident of the United Kingdom, who has endured unimaginable violations of his human rights. In 1977, Buddy was unjustly arrested, subjected to harmful medical interventions, and detained in a mental institution where he was stigmatized with a diagnosis of mental illness. This grievous treatment not only infringed upon his dignity but has also left an indelible mark on his life.
In 1978, Buddy bravely initiated legal proceedings against the Bexley Health Authority, seeking justice and compensation for the violations he endured. Which he won. The case was never contested, and his team was informed that arrangements were being made to pay Buddy. However, Sussana McGibbon is the decision-maker, and it would appear that Sussana McGibbon, the Treasury Solicitor and GLD's Permanent Secretary, has not decided to pay Buddy Larrier his compensation. His case is not just an individual struggle but is emblematic of the broader fight against the lingering injustices stemming from enslavement and colonialism that continue to affect African and Caribbean communities worldwide.
Now, over four decades later, Buddy’s case against the British Health Authority has reached the British High Court.
