Support bringing NFL FLAG NYC into public schools
The Issue
Bullying remains a significant issue in our schools, negatively affecting children's emotional, social, and academic development. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, one in five students report being bullied. This is where Don't Bully Me Inc. steps in with its innovative approach to combating this issue: sports.
NFL FLAG NYC, an initiative by the NFL and USA Football, encourages children to engage in positive, team-oriented sports activities without the risks associated with contact sports. Flag football develops teamwork, communication, and leadership skills among students—qualities that can help reduce instances of bullying by fostering mutual respect, empathy, and inclusion.
However, the potential of this program is limited by its current reach. We are calling on the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) to partner with Don’t Bully Me Inc. and facilitate the introduction of NFL FLAG NYC to all city public schools. By doing so, the DOE can promote a kinder, more inclusive school culture and provide students with a constructive outlet for their physical energy.
This partnership would not only support anti-bullying initiatives but also strengthen community ties by involving parents, local organizations, and professional athletes in school-based activities. Moreover, countless studies, including those published by the Journal of School Health, highlight that participation in sports can improve academic performance and psychological well-being—outcomes that align with DOE's mission of fostering student success.
Implementing NFL FLAG NYC in all public schools is a practical, impactful step towards eradicating bullying and creating a safe environment for all children to learn and grow. We urge NYC DOE to make this significant investment in our children’s future.
Let's work together to ensure our schools are safe spaces for every student. Sign this petition to advocate for the partnership between NYC DOE and Don’t Bully Me Inc., bringing NFL FLAG NYC to our public schools.
Please consider donating to NFL Flag NYC in our efforts to allow more children to participate in our NFL Flag football program. Your donations will provide uniforms, funding for educational trips, math and science tutoring and additional afterschool programming. https://cash.app/$NFLFLAGNYC
