In FY2007 the city received $5,485,00 in state Urban funding for DASH buses, in FY2010, ZERO $s. The Add On Tax, funded by commercial real estate, will supply much needed funds for new transit projects, to include bus racks on new DASH buses, extended bike trails, and other bike amenities. Fairfax and Arlington counties have used this state approved tax initiative to fund new transit and transportation projects. Alexandria has committed to use any funding for new projects only and not for maintenance/expansion of existing infrastructure. If the tax is not passed, bike projects, already long over due, will be further delayed. Send city council and the business community a message: passage of the Transit Tax will increase quality of life for those that live, work, or bike in Alexandria. Which in turn will bring more business. If we can’t move, we can’t “grow business.” Help biking be recognized as a viable transit option. Pass the Add On Transit Tax.
