The Issue

When a loved one with a disability goes missing, time can be the difference between life and death. That reality became heartbreakingly clear on October 4th, 2025, when 6-year-old Aiden Ha, a nonverbal autistic boy, went missing in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. Despite a multi-agency search effort, Aiden was tragically found dead in the Susquehanna River the next day.

Now, in Aiden’s memory, State Representative Robert Leadbeter is proposing “Aiden’s Law” to create a Purple Alert system—a statewide notification system specifically for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities who go missing.

Current alert systems like Amber Alerts (for children), Silver Alerts (for seniors), and Green Alerts (for at-risk veterans) serve specific populations—but people like Aiden often fall through the cracks. The criteria for these existing systems don’t always include children or adults with autism, traumatic brain injuries, early-onset dementia, or other cognitive disabilities. That gap leaves families helpless and law enforcement without crucial tools to mobilize the public.

A Purple Alert system would immediately broadcast vital information—like photos, descriptions, and last known locations—through media, highway signs, and wireless alerts. These moments matter. This system could save lives.

We are calling on the Pennsylvania General Assembly to pass Aiden’s Law without delay. Families of vulnerable individuals across the Commonwealth deserve to know that when the unthinkable happens, there is a system in place to help bring their loved ones home.

Aiden’s life mattered. Let’s make sure no other family has to face this kind of tragedy without every possible tool available.
