Amherst County has a rare opportunity to strengthen its economy, expand its tax base, and invest in the services that residents rely on every day.

Future Amherst was created to educate residents about the potential benefits of responsibly attracting a modern data center project to Amherst County. Supporters believe a properly planned project could generate significant new local revenue, create approximately 1,500 construction jobs during development, improve infrastructure, and provide long-term funding for schools, public safety, and other county priorities.

Unlike many forms of development, data centers can generate substantial tax revenue while placing relatively little demand on local schools, roads, and government services. Communities across Virginia have used data center revenue to support school improvements, public safety investments, and property tax relief for residents.

At the same time, Amherst residents deserve transparency, accountability, and a thorough review process. Any proposal should be evaluated carefully to ensure that concerns regarding water use, energy consumption, environmental impacts, and community character are fully addressed. County leaders are already discussing additional oversight measures to ensure residents have a voice in the process.

This petition is not asking for blind approval of any project.

It is asking Amherst County leaders to keep the door open to economic opportunities that can:
