Castiel should be included in more Supernatural episodes

The Issue

Misha Collins’s character, Castiel, on the CW’s Supernatural first made his appearance on the show as a recurring character in the premier of Season 4. Since then, Collins and his angelic character have become an integral part of the show’s mytharc storylines and have amassed a large following of dedicated fans.  Collins was promoted to series regular for Seasons 5 and 6, then demoted to special guest star for Seasons 7 and 8 but returned in Seasons 9 and 10 as a series regular once more.  From Season 4 up until present, Castiel has appeared in only 70 of 151 total episodes and in the seasons when he held series regular status he appeared in about 41% of episodes on average. Episodes that do contain Castiel consistently have higher ratings than episodes that do not and the majority of the highest rated Supernatural episodes of all time include Castiel in them, while not one of the twenty lowest rated episodes feature the angel. Castiel has also been the show's most searched for, reported on, and discussed character on the internet since April of 2011- following Season 6’s “The Man Who Would Be King”- and still maintains a significant lead over both of the show’s adored brothers well into Season 10.

Not only has the angel gained the show popularity, but love for the character and his actor goes beyond the television screen. Collins and his character have received a huge following of devoted fans and have become icons as well as inspirations and role models for many. Collins’s promotion of the show and frequent genuinely loving and supporting interactions with fans via social media strengthen and solidify the passion that many have for Supernatural and everything to do with it.

Now on the show’s 10th season, Castiel’s onscreen truancy is increasingly obvious and has begun to create holes in the storyline. With Castiel’s own personal story arc in Heaven exhausted, Castiel now has no other logical reason for his absence and separation from the Winchesters. Castiel is considered family by both of the Winchester brothers, and with nothing else to do at present it seems only consistent that he would be accompanying them on their hunts;  yet he still is not written into episodes on a regular basis notwithstanding the growing number of complaints.

Still, despite all the reasons mentioned above and many more that were not, Castiel is not present in the majority of Supernatural episodes. Please sign this petition to let the show runners, the network executives and the world know that fans want and need Castiel to be included more in Supernatural. Castiel should be regarded like the important character he has been made out to be and treated like the family that the fans and Winchesters consider him. Every signature for this petition is one person who cares enough about Castiel and Supernatural to be active about showing their support for his success and for the show's. Signing this petition makes Castiel’s voice stronger and acknowledges just how much of an impact his presence has. Whether agreeing with the reasons stated above or having personal ones, this is a call for action. Please take a minute to sign and share. This petition was written out of love for not only the angel, who has become such a huge part of the show, but also for the show itself. All three main characters deserve to have their story told, and the fans deserve it too.
