The Baldwin-Whitehall community stands for equality, respect, and all-around excellence. The Distinguished Highlander Alumni Hall of Fame should serve as an example to students on what to strive for and honor those who represent the values of our community. Senator Orrin Hatch may be a notable figure, but he has not practiced the dignity, respect, or conduct that Baldwin aims to promote and embody. This is not about partisan politics, but about disrespectful behavior that negates fame. Senator Hatch's recent actions include publicly yelling at sexual assault survivors to "grow up" and acting in a way that goes against the manner that Baldwin encourages students to act in. Public notoriety alone should not grant someone status and respect, as its their actions that reflect their character. Senator Hatch's behavior has been anything but distinguished, and it is a disservice and disrespect to all Highlanders to have him in the Distinguished Highlander Alumni Hall of Fame.
