The Issue

I am a sophomore at Deer Park Community Schools and I have noticed that a lot of my peers have been really upset with the way we are learning today. This petition is not to put down the school board or any of the administrators, but is to solely focus on how they can make learning for us better and more comfortable in this time of need. I have spoken with a couple of my peers and they all say the same thing..., to many zooom calls are emotionally draining, unnecessary, and very stressful.

We currently have zoom calls 5 days a week. We switch between 3-4 classes every day as Even and Odd days. Each class is about 1 hour and 25 minutes, which is way to long especially from 8:10 A.M. - 3 P.M. every day. Me and my peers feel that we should only have to get on zoom calls 1 or 2 days a week and have the rest of the days as self-directed learning. This will also help high school students that have work and other things to maintain on a daily basis. We all are very stressed in this pandemic and we feel that accommodating with us will relieve some of the stress that we already have due to the pandemic.

We believe that we should have brief virtual classes to go over things and makes sure everyone knows what they are doing. Not only will this help us high school students, but it will also help our teachers for not having to talk on a zoom call for hours and hours every single day. I'm hoping that this petition catches Deer Parks BOE and Deer Parks Superintendent so they can take consideration on how we feel works best for us as high school students today.
