The plan for SUNY Oneonta to reopen in the Spring was released by the school  today. Keeping with the theme of poor administrative decisions a plan that will limit the dorms to single room occupancy and allow only 1,070 students back is beyond unfair. We students are being punished as a result of the schools poor planning in the fall. While our numbers for positive covid tests at the time were high, the administration and the Chancellor have had several months to come up with a plan that would hopefully include better and more often testing like other SUNY schools are doing. They replaced the President and brought in someone new that gave us all hope that things were going to get better. The students, especially those on campus, deserve the same housing options as students at the other SUNY schools. Let us show the faculty, the City of Oneonta, all of NY State and the rest of the country (since everyone will be watching) that we are there for the right reasons and will follow the rules. We need to move forward and let the students back to campus. Telling over half of them that they cannot return is just not right. When other schools are bringing back all the students that want to return, why can't Oneonta do the same? As a part of the SUNY system, all SUNY students should be given the same options. With most classes being online I am sure not everyone wants to come back to campus but all should be given the choice. We all chose Oneonta when we could have attended another school. My father and sister are both alumni and I myself have wanted to come here since I first saw the school when I was in 7th grade. I was accepted to other schools but chose Oneonta. So far I lost part of my freshman year and half of my sophomore year. I, like many of the people I know all want to come back. I had great classes and teachers and started making some great friends. Do not let SUNY take this away from us.  Let us show the school we are ready and want to come back to campus. Yes, it will not be exactly what we had hope for but at least give us the chance to show everyone why we chose SUNY Oneonta and we will lead the other schools by example. Please sign the petition and make our voices heard.
