We want websites in Indian Languages to be eligible for Google Adsense

The Issue

A website publishers worked very hard strategizing, implementing them for providing valuable information to visitors, be it news portal, infotainment, social or any other site. And, when it comes to getting the reward from advertisers, publishers get disappointed, on many occasions, leaving them morally mortified.

As of now, Google Adsense Program only supports English and Hindi on its platform in India. In layman view, a website which is either in English or Hindi can earn money from advertisement. And, any other languages such as Tamil, Bengali, Telugu and Odia etc. are not supported by Adsense, hence demotivating them to work for the betterment of the industries.

On the other hand, Google’s YouTube is allowing ads to be displayed on other Indian languages’ video such as Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Odia etc. So why Google’s Adsense is not allowing other languages than English and Hindi to display ads?

For a content publisher ads are the only source of revenue, which keeps them going. They’ve not any other source of revenue as do e-commerce sites have. So why Google is limiting them?

And why Google isn’t approving websites to display Adsense ads based on the Alexa rank, unique visitors and page views rather than only Language?

So I request you to sign the petition with me asking Google Adsense to allow other Indian regional languages in its program.

Why this petition and why it’d be beneficial for Google as well?

The number of local language Internet users in India is growing at 47% year-on-year and has touched 127 million in June 2015, says a new report by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and market research firm IMRB International.

India has a large scope for local-language-Internet as non-English speaking population constitute 88% of the population

The overall digital advertising spends in India will reach around Rs 4500 crore by 2017 end. The proportion of digital ads spends in the local language will be around 8%-10% of the entire market.

“India is going to get to 500 million Internet users, but 300 million is not going to be proficient in English,” says Google India managing director Rajan Anandan. To avoid squandering that advertising opportunity, Google is also focusing on targeting ads to non-English speakers.

The bottom line: English is the Internet’s language in India, even though one-third of the online population doesn’t speak it.

Sign my petition and share with everyone to ensure Google Adsense allow other Indian languages.  If enough of us get together and show our outrage, we can get Google to respond.
