We, the undersigned residents and concerned members of the community, respectfully request that the City of Summerside take the following actions regarding the Sunbank battery fire that began on September 7, 2026:

1. Hold a public town hall
We ask the City of Summerside to hold a public town hall where residents can attend and ask their questions directly about the Sunbank fire.

We ask that the appropriate representatives and experts involved in the response, testing and monitoring be invited to participate so residents have an opportunity to ask questions and receive information directly.

We ask that the public town hall be held within two weeks of the City of Summerside receiving this petition.

2. Release all environmental testing results
We ask the City of Summerside to make publicly available all environmental testing results and records related to the Sunbank fire, including air and water testing already conducted, as well as ongoing and future air, water and soil monitoring results as they become available.

If the City of Summerside does not currently have possession of all testing results and records related to the Sunbank fire, we, the undersigned, ask that the City obtain them from the appropriate agencies, organizations, laboratories or other parties on behalf of its residents and make them publicly available.

Where available, this should include:

• What substances were tested for
• Actual numerical results
• Dates and times of testing
• Sampling and monitoring locations
• Testing methods and detection limits
• The companies, laboratories or experts that conducted or analyzed the testing

We also ask that these records and future monitoring results be posted in one publicly accessible location so residents can easily find and review the information as it becomes available.

We appreciate the updates and reassurances that have been provided to residents.

However, residents should also have access to the information behind those reassurances.

We recognize that not every resident may wish to review this information. However, residents who do want to see the testing results should have the opportunity to access them.

Releasing all of the results would allow residents to review the information themselves, ask informed questions and, if they choose, seek an independent professional opinion about what the results mean.

This petition does not presume what the testing results show or question the conclusions that have been communicated to date.

It is about transparency, access to information and giving residents an opportunity to ask questions about an incident that significantly affected our community.

Residents were asked to shelter in place, a voluntary evacuation was issued, schools and facilities were closed, and environmental monitoring continues.

We believe a public town hall and the release of all environmental testing information are reasonable requests.

Therefore, we respectfully ask the City of Summerside to:
Hold a public town hall regarding the Sunbank battery fire within two weeks of receiving this petition, and release all environmental testing results related to the fire, including ongoing and future air, water and soil monitoring results as they become available.
