SUFFOLK STUDENTS: OUR THIRD SPACE IS NOW PAY-TO-ENTER. LET’S CHANGE THAT.
The Issue
Let Suffolk Students Use Our Own Campus!!!
Students at Suffolk University are now required to make a purchase in order to access our largest communal seating space on campus (Samia Dining Hall).
Our school is in the middle of downtown Boston, and space is extremely limited considering we don't have a "traditional" campus. Many of us have gaps between classes, specifically commuter students, and need somewhere on campus to sit, study, meet with friends, eat food we’ve brought from home, or even just take a break.
Third spaces are crucial to our campus community. There NEEDS to be a space for students to exist without being forced to spend money.
RESTRICTING ACCESS TO OUR THIRD SPACE IN SAMIA DINING HALL DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTS LOWER INCOME STUDENTS AND THOSE WITH DIETARY RESTRICTIONS.
Suffolk University, we are asking that you reopen this seating area as a communal space, allowing access to students without requiring a purchase in the dining hall.
REMOVING THE LARGEST THIRD SPACE ON OUR URBAN CAMPUS WEAKENS OUR COMMUNITY, AND DIRECTLY IMPACTS STUDENT SUCCESS.
Suffolk students deserve space on campus where we can meet, study, connect, and feel like we belong without having to spend money.
