Suffolk County police corruption and injustice robbed Derick Tyler of 35 years of his life

Suffolk County police corruption and injustice robbed Derick Tyler of 35 years of his life
The Issue
- In 1990, Derick was sentenced to life without parole for a crime he did not commit. At the time of his arrest, he was 20 years old. He is now 55 years old.
- He has been in prison for 35 years.
- He was indicted for First degree murder without parole.
- Derick has maintained his innocence since the first day of arrest in 1989 and continues to state his innocence until this day.
- Corrupted Boston Police Department detectives, Paul Murphy and Richard Walsh (deceased) were the lead detectives on Derick’s case were known for witness recantation, tampering and falsifying testimonial statements. For example, previous murder case where these same detectives were involved in (Commonwealth vs. Shawn Drumgold) overturned and a civil complaint settlement received by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for these officers wrongdoing.
- The two witnesses were both know to have criminal records and open cases pending against them. They were promised favors for their testimony and denied it at trial. They both had a substance abuse issue at that time and took the stand impaired giving false statements. These are the same two witnesses that have now recanted their testimony years later. The prosecutor was Phyllis Broker the same DIstrict Attorney on Sean Ellis case who was aware of the police corruption and chose to ignore the evidence and sentence this man to prison. She is on the documentary for “Trial 4 on Netflix”.
- Though Mr Tyler was allegedly accused of this crime that was suppose to involve him and seven other men. He was the only person arrested and convicted of this crime. No one else was interviewed or arrested. They solely had it out for him. During a lineup they only displayed one photo which was hung up on the wall in the police station. He was charged with Joint Venture and Aiding & Abetting others, which is a charge that implies that there are more people being charged for the crime. Until this day, he has not had a co-defendant.
- Both witnesses testified at trial to seeing eight men getting out of a 1988 Suzuki side kick including the driver at 5:30pm on a sunny day between a housing development with people sitting outside with spectators across the street at a baseball game, as well as people walking by, sitting in their cars, buses with people coming home from work. This is a busy area and only these two witnesses seen Derick Tyler allegedly commit the crime at Washington Park in Roxbury Mass sitting on the bleachers. How is it possible that no one else seen this????If you google map the area you will see their story was fabricated and no truth to it.
- The only thing that is linking Derick Tyler to this case is the testimony that was rehearsed by the two detectives to the two witnesses who have signed affidavits that they never seen or knew Mr Tyler. The witnesses just wanted their own criminal cases closed.
- David Lewis is in charge of the conviction integrity unit in Boston, Massachusetts. He isn’t working diligently on Mr Tyler case due to the need to hire more staff to review applications on wrongdoing.
- I need everyone to please sign this petition and share it with family, friends or politicians who are willing to correct this injustice. It is overdue and Derick Tyler needs to come home to his family. He is willing to share his experience and trauma that continues to go on.
