The issue

Climate change is undeniably a global issue, and we need to try to slow down, to create a world for our future. I know people who live where the impact of climate change has become undeniable, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by my friends and community. They have experienced more frequent heatwaves, unpredictable weather, and devastating bushfires that have disrupted their lives and well-being. These harsh realities not only threaten their immediate safety but also pose serious long-term economic and health challenges. On land, we have warmed by 1.2 °C since 1970. While this doesn't seem a lot on paper, this affects farming, construction, tourism, and our proud biodiversity. Climate change is clearly impacting Australians, biodiversity, and our economy.

Australia has long been reliant on fossil fuels, a major contributor, if not the single most contributor to national and global climate change. However, it's time to take bold action and transition towards sustainable energy solutions. Green energy, such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, offers a path forward that can not only mitigate the impacts of climate change but also position Australia as a global leader in clean energy technology.

Countries around the world are recognising the importance of subsidising green energy to ensure a smooth transition away from fossil fuels. By reducing the cost of these technologies, we can encourage wider adoption and innovation within this sector. This is not just an environmental imperative but an economic opportunity to create jobs and secure Australia's energy future.

What will happen though?

Subsidisation of green energy would reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly. As per the International Energy Agency's 2022 report, renewables could account for nearly 50% of global electricity generation if current incentives and subsidies were optimised. Implementing such measures in Australia can parallel global efforts and commitments to addressing climate change. Additionally, green energy can flood the grid with clean energy, dragging electricity prices down to basically zero, who doesn't want that?

We must act now. Support green energy and infrastructure and  join me in calling upon the Australian government to prioritise the subsidisation of green energy while systematically phasing out fossil fuel reliance. Let's urge our leaders to take decisive steps that will protect the environment, stimulate the economy, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
