Every life lost to suicide leaves behind families, children, friends, first responders, and entire communities forever changed.My fiancé, Michael ,passed away after going over the Betsy Ross Bridge. Since that day, our family has lived with unimaginable grief. Our children now have to grow up without the man who loved them deeply, and no family should have to experience this kind of loss if there are reasonable steps that could help prevent future tragedies.This petition is not about assigning blame. It is about asking the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) to take a proactive, evidence-based look at whether additional suicide prevention measures could save lives.Bridges around the world have implemented strategies such as suicide prevention barriers, safety fencing, crisis telephones, enhanced surveillance, and other interventions. Many of these projects have been associated with substantial reductions in suicides at those locations and have become part of broader suicide prevention efforts.

We are asking the DRPA to:

Conduct a public engineering and safety feasibility study for the Betsy Ross Bridge.
Evaluate suicide prevention barriers, fencing, safety nets, crisis phones, and other evidence-based interventions.
Review data from similar bridges where suicide prevention measures have been implemented.
Identify possible funding sources, including federal and state grants.
Present the findings publicly and allow community input before making any decisions.
No single measure can prevent every tragedy, but studying proven options is a responsible first step. Even one life saved means a family is spared the heartbreak that ours now lives with every day.
