Students want Enough at UWE

The Issue

We think UWE should work collaboratively with enough to give students choice on how they report and deter sexual assault, and access free digital mental health support.

What is enough?

Enough is a new form of reporting and recovery for rape that deters perpetrators and prevents rape, and empowers survivors. Enough exists for the 90% of students and 83% of women nationally who do not want to report to the police.

The intention of the DNA kit is to create a deterrent for perpetrators and prevent this happening. It also gives survivors the ability to self-test simply and discreetly and write a time-stamped testimony of what happened.

Beyond reporting, Enough provides free, effective and compassionate recovery resources.

Viral reports and communication on enough create enormous awareness and social deterrence.

Presence of Enough across the local community in bars, cafes and clubs reinforces the message of solidarity with survivors.

Every student's involvement in the campaign, by having a kit and following on social media creates stronger solidarity with survivors and deterrence against perpetrators, effectively saying "we've had enough."

Enough is not an alternative to the police, university or SARC, Enough is an alternative to inaction.

Students in Bristol want enough

In just over a month 5,000 students in Bristol have requested kits, over 70 students reported their rape, and messages of deterrence and empowerment have been viewed on social media over 2 million times.

What happened at UWE?

UWE students requested kits from Enough but this week the UWE SU announced to students that they are not in support of Enough and removed them from campus.

Rape is significantly under reported (90% students don’t report). We have to reveal the scale of the problem to tackle it. A fair estimate is 600 students per year at UWE (source below.) The SU disagreed with the approach to these estimations and labelled the stat as misinformation.

Messages we’ve been sent from students

"An email has been sent out against your organisation, it’s so sad too see when no one does anything to help the people at hand. You have all our support"

"Why would they (uni) have an issue with Enough when they are spreading awareness and helping people?"

Please add your reason for signing in a comment below, and use your uni email address if you are a current student.
