Change UA Student Ticket Opt-In

The Issue

The University of Alabama has opted to worry more about gaining a quick dollar rather than catering to the loyalty of their senior students. As seniors, we have all paid a small fortune paying for tuition over these last 4 years. Tuition prices as well as addition fees for books and classes have seen a gradual increase over the years due to Alabama’s great success on the field. Alabama’s football program has brought in revenue that has led to renovations of dorms, new residence halls, luxury apartments, and even brought in more out of state students than in state. The one perk of being a student at Bama: being able to go to all the home games at a reasonable price. However, that is not the case this year. The University has taken that ability away this year which affects the seniors the most out of all students. 1800 tickets is not enough justification for the amount of time that seniors have put in going to prior games and also countless hours in the classroom. In addition, Tide Pride has not sold all of their tickets to Tide Pride members while some members have even sold Their tickets to opposing fans. This means that there are even a greater number of tickets that could be sold to the student body that the University SGA and Athletic Association are simply letting go to waste.

This petition is designed to force the SGA and Athletic Department to reconfigure how they administer tickets. They claimed that the cutoff hours for seniors was 96 credit hours while there were some seniors that didn’t receive tickets that had more hours than that while some seniors received tickets who had less than 90 hours. It was very apparent that as a student body we are being lied to on how tickets are being administered and delivered. On top of that, by being allowed to transfer tickets to other students, some students are taking advantage of this opportunity to make money. Students that do not care about going to games are selling tickets at a high profit while many students that want to go to games are not able to get tickets and or afford to pay for the higher prices.

The opt-in process has always been senior having rewarding seniors for attending the University and earning their credit hours, but the University that is was “fair” to change that process this year. How much sense does it make for someone who has 92 UA credit hours to not get a ticket but a freshman who hasn’t completed a single class can get a ticket? This is how messed up and flawed the system is. As seniors for should have the right to be able to go to home football games especially over underclassmen.

Please sign this petition to urge the SGA and Athletic Department to either allow more student ticket allotments or change to the traditional away game student ticket opt-in process. This process includes allowing seniors to opt-in first and whatever tickets remain after the opt-in period go to the juniors and so on.
