Alright, now that the DMA system is already being implemented, it is obvious that no, the ministry will not make it optional. With that being said, the DMA system is flawed. Very flawed. First, ALL, yes ALL apps are blocked, including Microsoft edge, and also FileZilla, an app which sole purpose is to transfer files, which is compulsory for all Hwa Chong students to have, video editing and photo editing software, which is very necessary for members of the photography club, which includes me. The DMA programme turns a 1000 dollar laptop into a glorified Chromebook, which costs around 200 dollars. The DMA programme is supposed to aid and assist learning, not hinder it. Now, it is basically necessary for all students to have an extra device, which may heavily affect those less well off. The DMA system fails at aiding learning, since everything is not accessible to anyone, which means that it failed at its primary objective. Please do note that I am speaking on behalf of my entire class, and my entire club. What would fix this? Its simple: allow students to have some freedom, or if not at least let them use their devices for schoolwork. I honestly cannot believe that the school and the ministry did not test this beforehand and realize the problems before rendering thousands of devices incapable of everything except using chrome.
