DEMAND LIGHTS & CROSSWALK SIGNALS FOR BLACKHAWK MIDDLE SCHOOL

DEMAND LIGHTS & CROSSWALK SIGNALS FOR BLACKHAWK MIDDLE SCHOOL
STUDENTS SHOULD FEEL SAFE WALKING/RIDING BIKES TO SCHOOL!
More students are now considered walkers in FWCS. That in itself is not the issue.
The issues are:
Poor lighting, not enough sidewalks, no flashing lights for the school-zone, no traffic lights at the busy intersection & no police presence in the intersection.
It's been stated previously that it's not cost effective to put a traffic light in the intersection of State & Busche. However, since December of 2020 until Thursday March 31, 2022, three students have been hit by cars while walking or riding their bike to school. This is in addition to countless other near-misses. Cost-effective? Are the lives of our children worth nothing?
It should be a #1 priority of the school system, city and police dept to ensure the safety of our children at All costs.
We have money in the city's budget for neighborhood improvements. Let's delegate some of those resources to adding the traffic lights & flashing school-zone signage. It not only helps ensure the safety of our children, but helps traffic flow in & out of the subdivisions as well as eleviate the traffic congestion due to school buses and cars entering & exiting the school.
We have to come to a resolution because lives are at stake! It shouldn't take the death of a student for these requests to become a priority. We have moved past the request phase. We now DEMAND action!!!
