Get students thoughts on how DCE handles mental and physical health.
In my personal opinion I believe DC Everest does not do enough to support mental health. I believe this because last year as some know, there was a student who committed suicide because they felt alone and no one noticed or stepped up to help them. It makes me wonder, if someone was there for this student would things be different? Would they still be here? In my personal experience I have had issues with my mental health before, quite a few times this year already and it’s mainly presenting in front of classes that gives me the most anxiety and with this one specific teacher, i asked if i was able to just present one on one with them or anything else besides going in front of the class and they told me that i should just “find a partner” instead of accommodating to my needs. Which ended up being fine but it was frustrating to me because I felt like I wasn’t being heard by anyone. Today as i’m writing this i found out that a student in my class(2022) committed suicide. again with the questions. would they still be here if someone stepped up? or if we did mental health checks? By all means, I am not trying to bash on or hate on DCE. There are a lot of good things they have done. I also understand each and every possibility going into this. But regardless, there needs to be a change and it needs to start somewhere. Lastly, if you do sign this I recommend sharing and commenting why you signed if you’d like! Thank you so much.
