Students Deserve Better: Improve Our Dining Hall
The Issue
At John Carroll University, many students share similar complaints and concerns regarding our dining hall, and our other dining option, the Inn Between. Right now, the biggest concern among students is the issues with the Inn Between. Many students elect to eat there as the Dining Hall's food options are usually very strange or stations are shut down as the workers are rushing students trying to get off their shift early at dinner time hours. Last night, October 28, many students who ordered at the Inn Between did not receive their food after almost 2+ hours of waiting, meaning they went without having dinner.
The dining hall workers are just blatantly rude, even when students are being nice to them. Portions are terrible, food is thrown onto our plates, and one worker seems to have been fired this semester for flirting with male students. Many students have stated witnessing the workers in the Inn Between smoking on shift as well. In the Dining Hall, by 7 pm stations are already being shut down. There are some classes on campus from 6:30-7:45 pm, and students may not be able to get dinner until after that class. We also have many French students on campus who seem to eat dinner later, which means they barely have any options for their dinner.
This has been going on far too long without any change happening. I have emailed Jason Brust, who is in charge of our dining hall, and the Dean of Students regarding the issues, and have not heard anything back from either. Many students, myself included, are paying 30k in tuition to attend here. Our dining hall should be better than being ranked the 21st worst dining hall in America. It's time to do better.
