Amidst growing concerns about the social safety at TU Delft, a condemning article from Delta on the victims’ experiences and a fast-approaching new inspection by the Inspectorate of Education in February 2025, we have continued to push the conversation on social safety forward. Since our last update, we have not yet met with either the Executive Board (EB) or the Supervisory Board (SB). However, we have met with the CNV union and recently we have spoken with member of the House of Representatives Rosanne Hertzberger from NSC.

Meetings with the boards

It has been almost three months since our scheduled meeting with the Executive Board (EB) on August 29th was cancelled due to disagreements over the presence of a Delta representative. As we want to keep the dialogue open, we have decided to continue the negotiations to hold the meeting on neutral ground under safe conditions for both parties. Our goal is to include an independent third party, such as Delta, to report to the broader TU Delft community and to ensure transparency. We are hopeful that we are nearing the end of these negotiations, since the EB has recently agreed to this condition. We will keep you informed on any planned meeting dates.

A meeting with the Supervisory Board (SB) has not yet been scheduled, but negotiations are ongoing.

Meeting with CNV Vakbond

On the 3rd of October, we met with representatives from CNV Vakbond to discuss various aspects regarding social safety within the university. The conversation focused primarily on personal experiences and our collective concerns, which we believe should be communicated to the union. The following key points were discussed:

Neglect of Student Concerns: One of the main issues raised by us was the systematic neglect of the students’ experiences in the ongoing discussions about social safety. The CNV representatives, while they acknowledged our concerns, emphasised that, as a workers’ union, their focus lies primarily with staff. They will attempt, however, to raise the issue through the relevant point of contact.
Lack of Accountability Between Supervisory and Executive Boards: We discussed the lack of accountability between the SB and EB and also the functional/organisational separation between the two boards was discussed, especially regarding the SB’s oversight role. We discussed a cycle where issues are raised, action plans are requested, and detailed reports are produced without real progress. Despite public attention, this cycle continues to exist.

Meeting with Rosanne Hertzberger (NSC political party)

On 1st of November, a delegation from our group met with Rosanne Hertzberger, Member of Parliament for NSC. The main focus of the conversation were the issues at I&IC, including threats of dismissal by the Executive Board to silence staff about management changes. We also expressed our deep displeasure over the Executive Board's -costly- threats of legal action against the Inspectorate of Education, following a critical report, but also SB’s support of this action. Finally, we highlighted a long-standing practice of transferring or dismissing those who report social safety issues, while those responsible for creating unsafe situations often remain in their positions.
