Niagara University is its own community. Niagara University has multiple locations that are creating massive amounts of food waste every single year, this in itself is not a bad thing, there needs to be food available for the thousands of people that walk on-campus every day. It is extremely odd though that a green campus would not take advantage of this waste and compost it.

For those that do not know, composting is a process by which organic materials (I.E food and plant clippings) are broken down into a nutrient-rich fertilizer. This process recycles various organic materials otherwise regarded as waste products. 

Compost has a host of beneficial aspects that come along with it. It is nutrient-rich and helps promote the healthier growth of plants. It is able to absorb carbon, meaning that it can be a system used to combat the ever-increasing climate change. It is also something that can be run by students as amazing research and service-learning opportunity. Niagara University is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and as stewards of our campus and of the world, we should work to create a sustainable future.
