Students Against Banning Books

Students Against Banning Books
The Issue
The Oregon Moms Union, a conservative group, is trying to get certain books banned from the West Linn/Wilsonville school district. Among those books are:
- The Heartstopper series - which portrays young (gay) love
- Milk & Honey - which addresses sexual assault and abuse.
- Me Earl and the Dying Girl - A book about friendship, filmmaking and cancer that uses graphic slang.
- Beyond Magenta - An honest, sometimes graphic, look at the life, love, and struggles of transgender teens.
Oregon Moms Union is claiming these books are "pornographic". In each case, these books depict the realities of being a teenager in today's society.
If somebody is not interested in reading these, that's your/their choice. They have the freedom to not pick these books up. They have the freedom to not read them.
They should not have the freedom to take away other's choices.
These books, and others like them, have been so helpful to teens who may have previously felt alone or misunderstood. These books have saved lives.
If you feel books like these should remain in our libraries please sign this petition.
Let the school board know these books should stay in our libraries and available to our students.
