Student Parking Fee Reduction

Student Parking Fee Reduction
The Issue
The current parking fee of $75 at our public high school directly impacts students and their families, many of whom are already navigating tight budgets. This fee can be a significant burden, especially for students from low- to middle-income families who need a car to travel to school, work, or extracurricular activities. Many students work part-time jobs to support themselves or their families, and the high parking cost eats into the money they rely on for essentials like gas, school supplies, and even college savings. For students who don’t live close to school or have limited access to public transportation, paying this fee is not just an inconvenience; it’s a hardship that affects their daily lives and opportunities. If the parking fee remains at $75, many students may continue to face financial stress and reduced access to school resources and activities, simply because they can’t afford to park on campus. Reducing this fee to $25 would make a noticeable difference, allowing students to save money for more pressing needs and access their education without additional financial obstacles. A change in this policy would foster a more inclusive school environment, where students from all backgrounds can participate fully and focus on their studies without unnecessary financial worry. So fellow students, teachers, parents, and citizens of the area. I ask that you help me exercise my right to free speech, and petition and reach those elected officials of the Peoria unified school district to make things just a little bit easier for the next generation of students to come. Thank you!
