Freedom to Travel – MTA Discounted Fare for College Students

We hereby petition the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to enact a discounted fare for the college students of New York City. More specifically, we propose a 30% discount on the 30 Day Unlimited Metro Ride Card, bringing the total down to $85.

This figure is result of thorough research. The Collegiate Congress ran a preliminary survey of over 600 New York City College Students to determine their rate of Unlimited card purchases vs. pay-as-you-go cards. The results revealed that a discount on monthly MTA metrocards would yield a large enough increase in adoption rates to recuperate the foregone revenue from the discount.

Our proposal will not only save students money, but will also increase the revenue of MTA.

As the leading student advocacy organization in New York City, the Collegiate Congress has been spearheading this proposal to the MTA and in the press.
