In 2018, testimonies surfaced of over 50 women, an audio tape, a confession, and ongoing criminal cases that revealed that Harvey Weinstein has committed counts of serious sexual assault and harassment over a period that spanned 3 decades.

In February this year, Harvey Weinstein was convicted of sexual assault and rape in a landmark New York case. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. 

Two years ago, I started this petition calling for Harvey Weinstein to be stripped of his honorary CBE. In October 2018, we had a response: it was reported that a decision to revoke Harvey Weinstein's honorary CBE was being actively considered. However, two years on, and with a criminal conviction confirmed, a decision still has not been reached by the committee.

By remaining silent and allowing Weinstein to retain his CBE, it only reaffirms the idea that perpetrators of sexual assault not only get away with it, but are actually celebrated.

That's why I'm calling for the Honours Committee, chaired by Sir Chris Wormald KCB and the Arts and Media Honours Committee, chaired by Rupert Gavin, to strip Harvey Weinstein of his honorary CBE.

I along with so many other friends, family and colleagues, have my own #MeToo stories. I was moved by emotion and anger as I watched my timeline light up two years ago over and over again with the words '#MeToo'. I am determined that the #MeToo movement must not be forgotten.  That’s at the core of why I started the petition: to keep this going and make sure that anger online against sexual violence translates into strong, definitive action and to let decision-makers know what we think. It’s about asking ourselves whether we want Weinstein to be recorded in the history books, as someone to be celebrated or someone to be condemned.

The UK must not silently condone sexual harassment and assault or the culture in which it happens.
