Stricter laws to regulate Cyclists and E-Bikes/E-Scooters in the UK

The Issue

In the interests of pedestrian safety…

We, the undersigned request the UK government set forth stricter laws to regulate the speed and behaviour of cyclists, e-bikes and e-scooters, but to ensure prosecution if their actions endanger or cause harm to people or animals.

Unfortunately many lack a peaceful approach to cycling, it just takes one error of judgement for a collision to occur when they ride at such high speeds in public places, veering in-between pedestrians and dog walkers on footways, roads and in parks. Most notably, I have also witnessed some cyclists and e-scooters/e-bikes utilising their speed and cycling machinery to intimidate those in their pathway which remains contrary to the Highway Code.

They continually disregard traffic law and pedestrian safety due to the lack of oversight for this mode of transport, as they remain unlicensed and can quickly speed-off without being held accountable.

Henceforth we need stricter laws for this mode of transport and we kindly request the UK government create more laws to regulate cyclists and e-riders.

If you feel the same or have experienced multiple incidents like myself, then please sign, comment and share this petition for a safer pedestrian experience in the UK.

Road Traffic Act (1988), Section 28 - Dangerous cycling: (1) A person who rides a cycle on a road dangerously is guilty of an offence. (2) For the purposes of subsection (1) above a person is to be regarded as riding dangerously if (and only if) — (a) the way he rides falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful cyclist, and (b) it would be obvious to a competent and careful cyclist that riding in that way would be dangerous.
