I never thought I'd find myself in a situation where I felt the need to publicly speak out like this, but my experience has left me no other choice. My county didn't take my concerns seriously at first, but it took another county to recognize the danger when he called me directly from jail. It was a terrifying violation that should never have happened. I had to stand up in court on July 28th, 2026, and testify against him. While I'm thankful the judge took my words seriously and sentenced him to serve his remaining time, the reality of his early release looms over me. It’s possible he could be out by November.

This man is unstable and unpredictable, which makes his behavior a constant threat to my safety and my family's peace of mind. I've endured so much at his hands, and the system meant to protect me has failed time and again. Our laws in Indiana must change to offer real protection for victims like me, so we're not left to fend for ourselves once an offender is jailed. The fact that he was able to reach me from inside a correctional facility says it all. We need laws that ensure offenders can't continue their harassment, regardless of where they are.

Living in constant fear isn't just unfair, it's inhumane. My daughter and I deserve to feel safe. But the current state of Indiana's domestic violence protection laws means I could too easily become another statistic in the ongoing tragedy of domestic violence. Too many women find themselves in this position, with a system that seems indifferent to our safety.

This is about more than just me. It's about preventing future terror for countless others. I shouldn’t have to worry about what happens if I'm no longer here. My testimony should have been the end of my nightmare, not the beginning of another anxious countdown to his release. Protecting victims must begin with ensuring that offenders cannot exploit loopholes within the system. There is so much to my story that I will tell over time, it’s been almost a decade and I just now testified. It’s not just me, it’s for ALL victims!
