As a foster parent, I have witnessed the heartbreaking cycle of child abuse. Too often, I've cared for infants who were victims of violent acts, left with broken bones and internal injuries. They are placed in my care for safety and healing, only to be returned to their abusive homes where the cycle tragically repeats itself.

This is not an isolated issue but a systemic problem. According to the U.S Department of Health & Human Services (2019), over 678,000 children were found to be victims of child abuse or neglect nationwide. Alarmingly, research shows that once a child has been abused or neglected they are at higher risk for further harm (Child Welfare Information Gateway).

We need stronger laws that prioritize children's safety over family reunification when there is clear evidence of severe abuse. Our current system too often fails these vulnerable children by returning them into dangerous environments where they continue to suffer harm.
