Stop zoning change from General NEIGHBORHOOD Commercial to industrial

Stop zoning change from General NEIGHBORHOOD Commercial to industrial
The Issue
(You do not need to donate money) UPDATE.......The public hearing has been moved to November 19th 2026 th at 9:00am.
You are all likely aware of the proposed data center tied to the rezoning request in the Holder area. This type of heavy industrial use is not appropriate for this location. Data centers place a significant long-term strain on our local water resources and require extremely high energy consumption, which can ultimately contribute to increased utility costs for residents.
If you share these concerns, I encourage you to learn more and sign the petition at www.NoDataCenterCitrus.org
Hundreds of families live within a one-mile radius, and thousands of families live within a 5-mile radius of a proposed industrial site, who have chosen this peaceful area for our homes. Our tranquil, country residential community is under threat from plans to change the zoning from general NEIGHBORHOOD commercial to industrial to accommodate the construction of an asphalt plant. We are not asking you to contribute any money to fight this change. I will cover all the cost to stop this land use change from happening. All I ask is for you to share this petition on your social media so we can make as many people aware as possible. This asphalt plant would bring constant noise, traffic pollution, and harmful emissions to our doorstep. Asphalt plants are known for releasing toxic pollutants into the air, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter (PM). These substances contribute to environmental degradation and can severely impact our health, especially for vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. The potential health risks include respiratory problems, skin irritations, and other long-term illnesses. For many who have chosen to live here for its natural beauty and clean air, this proposal would drastically alter our quality of life and compromise our health. Furthermore, the increase in heavy traffic to and from the asphalt plant would increase the risk of accidents on our local roads, putting residents, children, and wildlife in danger. The noise pollution would also increase, disrupting the peacefulness we currently enjoy in our homes and gardens. We understand the need for economic development, but it should not come at the expense of our health and community well-being. We propose maintaining the current general commercial zoning, which supports sustainable development that aligns with our community values and environmental goals. We urge local authorities to conduct a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and host public hearings to ensure our community's voices are heard. Alternatives should be explored to find a balance between development and preserving our quality of life. Please sign this petition to stand with us against changing the zoning to allow an asphalt plant in our neighborhood. Together, we can protect our homes and environment from harmful industrial development.
