The Issue

YouTube has become the most popular platform on the internet. As someone who was considering pursuing YouTube as a side hobby, the increasing abuse of AI for content moderation, handling strikes, and termination appeals is deeply concerning. The rapid escalation of this issue in recent months is evident in several unjust bans and content blocks. Creators have been penalized for vague or irrelevant reasons, such as being erroneously linked to unrelated terminated channels or having their instructional content wrongfully categorized under harmful activities.

Consider the frustration of having your hard work and creativity nullified because an automated algorithm made a judgment error. This situation is not just a violation of creators' rights; it also reflects poorly on YouTube's management of its own content guidelines. If platforms like YouTube continue to rely blindly on AI, many potential creators like myself will be discouraged from joining, fearing the unpredictability and unfairness of the system.

Real people are behind the content on YouTube, and it is essential to have real people overseeing content moderation, particularly in ambiguous cases. Accurate content moderation NEEDS human judgment and empathy, which are currently beyond the capabilities of AI technology.

We demand that YouTube reconsiders its overreliance on artificial intelligence for content moderation. Instead, adopt a balanced approach that incorporates human oversight to make more accurate and fair decisions. By doing this, YouTube not only supports its creators but also ensures the platform remains credible, fair, and inviting to new and existing users alike.

Please sign this petition to demand that YouTube strikes a balance between AI and human oversight, protecting the rights and creativity of all content creators.
