The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the devastating impact that the proposed QTS data center could have on our local environment in York County. As someone who cherishes the natural beauty and diverse wildlife of our community, I feel compelled to speak out against this development and protect the habitats of countless animals that call our area home.

The QTS data center project promises economic growth and technological advancement. However, it comes at a significant environmental cost. The construction and operation of the facility would disrupt large swathes of natural land, clearing habitats that are crucial for local wildlife. Animals like the white tail deer, raccoons , and various bird species could face severe displacement, leading to a decline in biodiversity that would irreparably harm our ecosystem.

Moreover, data centers are notorious for their high energy consumption and carbon emissions. Reports have shown that they can use as much electricity as a small town, contributing massively to pollution and environmental degradation. In a time where climate change is one of the most pressing issues we face, it is irresponsible to prioritize corporate interests over sustainable development.

The question we must ask ourselves is: at what cost do we welcome this data center? Are a few economic benefits worth sacrificing the clean air, water, and land that sustain both human and animal life in York County?

I propose that York County officials reconsider approving the QTS data center and explore alternative solutions that prioritize our environmental health. Investing in green technology or supporting smaller, eco-friendly projects could provide similar economic benefits without the detrimental effects on our local wildlife.
