The Issue

Undergraduates at Anurag University, Ghatkesar, Hyderabad, particularly the batch of 2022-2026, are facing an unexpected and distressing hurdle. Students who were entitled to government scholarships throughout their four-year course are now being denied their Original Degree (OD) certificates at the convocation ceremony scheduled for July 4th, 2026. This denial is unless they pay the university an amount ranging from a minimum of 1.4 Lakh rupees to as much as 5 Lakh rupees, depending on the type of merit and caste-based scholarship they received. Students are also being denied to get a soft copy of the certificates until payment is done. This amount is expected to be received from the Government of Telangana at a time unknown to the University later on which should then be acquired by the students from the University, as mentioned by the Administration.

This situation is not just a bureaucratic challenge but an outright injustice to those students who depended on these scholarships to pursue their education. At least 50% of students from each class are scholarship winners, and all of them now find themselves in a position where their future careers are being jeopardized. Many students have secured job offers contingent upon the submission of their degree certificates, which are now being withheld. For non-resident students, making frequent trips to Hyderabad to resolve this matter is both financially and logistically burdensome.

The administration’s decision to withhold these degrees is not only unprecedented but also a betrayal of trust towards the students and their belief in the promise of access to education. This issue impacts not only the students and their families but also undermines the ethos of fair educational opportunities.

The pain and frustration are real and must be acknowledged. We, therefore, urge the authorities at Anurag University to reassess and rectify their stance. We call upon government officials, educational bodies, and advocates to step forward and intervene in this matter. Anurag University should immediately release the Original Degree Certificates to all eligible students without demanding any form of compensation for the scholarship amounts.

Education is a right, not a privilege to be bartered. Let us stand together to hold Anurag University accountable and ensure that every student receives their hard-earned degree certificate without an unjust financial burden. Sign this petition to demand justice for Anurag University scholars and safeguard educational fairness.
