Stop with the horrible school lunches! They expect us to learn by " healthy food as fuel"

Stop with the horrible school lunches! They expect us to learn by " healthy food as fuel"

The Issue

The school expects us to learn. So why feed us  so badly?!?

Please keep in mind I am trying to respect everyone, including the school dietitian.

My name is Alice. I go to a school in upstate NY. Our grades are at stake.  Why expect us to keep morale high, while all my friends, you, your friends, family and your children are being served things like this. They expect us to be ready to face the day of 6 hours straight of sitting, writing, taking notes, then eat things my grandpas dog wouldn't even eat! After all that, go back to class to do all of it again. Monday through friday, almost every week until around 18. When you are 19 you are expected to do the same thing, just  harder for around the next 3 years.

Don't feed us like this!  Corndogs are pink all the way through. Pizzas are dry and chewy. If I want more grapes, I have to pay 2 bucks. FOR ROTTEN GRAPES! 2 BUCKS FOR 5 ROTTEN GRAPES.  Our grades and future jobs are at stake!

Now is the time to act. I CERTAINTLY DO NOT want my future children, the kids I babysit, my baby cousins and your family to deal with this!

Please sign to help everyone across the nation to get better food!!! And keep in mind this is the only meals some kids get! In new york state, approximately one in ten families have food insecurity. I know the image isn't great, but the corndog was pink and cold.  The dough was raw. This is one of the better meals. Pizzas are due for changes.

My goal is to have stricter food regulations, such as having temp checks hourly on the food after cooking. Another is to have better fruits and vegetables. Even if it is debatable, no one wants a cold, soggy slurry of supposedly broccoli or mixed vegetables. Salads are quite nice but maybe have a couple of dressing options other than Caesar every day. Try and accommodate people with larger or smaller appetites. The food servings are the same as ones for the thirteen year olds and basically adults. I’m not surprised if they are the same for fifth graders, also.

Make school lunches better! End yucky meals! Make us want to go to school!

Thank you so much for reading all this,

Alice in 8th grade

*update- Thank-you all so much for 300 signatures. This means so much!!! Keep it up GJSD!!!*
