STOP WESCO HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILL SITE NEXT TO MELKBOSSTRAND!

STOP WESCO HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILL SITE NEXT TO MELKBOSSTRAND!

The Issue

I have been a resident of Melkbosstrand since 1976, and with deep concern, I am raising awareness about the planned hazardous landfill site, which is set to be constructed just a few hundred meters from the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. Should this project move forward, it will have a devastating impact on our community. Our land and air will be polluted with toxic fumes and dust, while the neighboring town of Atlantis will suffer greatly due to the prevailing southeasterly winds, which will carry these pollutants directly into their living spaces.

This proposed site is also home to indigenous plant and animal species, further amplifying the ecological disaster we face. We are not opposed to responsible recycling, but we are firmly against polluting our air, water, and environment with hazardous waste. The water flowing through this area will carry toxins toward the sea, damaging marine life and disrupting the delicate balance of our local ecosystem.

Melkbosstrand is renowned for its stunning, long stretches of white sand beaches, international kite-surfing spots, and as the gateway to the West Coast. If this project is approved, it will have serious consequences for our tourism industry, property values, and, most importantly, our health.

We urgently ask you to join us in opposing this landfill by signing our petition, which we will present to the government. If you wish to contribute financially towards securing an environmental advocate, your support would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you sincerely for standing with us,
Patricia Lerm.
