Stop Wasting Money on More Assembly Members in Wales!

Stop Wasting Money on More Assembly Members in Wales!
The Issue
As a resident of Wales, I am deeply concerned about the proposal to increase the number of Assembly Members (AMs) by 36, at an additional cost of £18 million per year. This decision seems unnecessary and wasteful, especially when there are pressing issues in our country that require immediate attention and funding.
Personal Story:
Living in Wales, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by our healthcare system, education sector, and infrastructure. Our National Health Service (NHS) is under immense strain with long waiting times for crucial treatments and a shortage of medical professionals. Our schools are facing budget cuts, resulting in larger class sizes and limited resources for our children's education. Our roads are riddled with potholes and congestion, causing delays and frustration for commuters.
It is disheartening to see that instead of addressing these critical issues head-on, there is a proposal to allocate such a substantial amount of money towards increasing the number of AMs. This decision not only diverts funds from where they are truly needed but also fails to provide any concrete justification for such an expansion.
Facts & Statistics:
1. The current Welsh Assembly already has 60 members who represent their constituents effectively.
2. According to research conducted by the Electoral Reform Society (ERS), Wales already has more politicians per head than most other countries in Europe.
3. The proposed increase would cost taxpayers an additional £18 million per year - money that could be better spent improving essential services like healthcare or education.
4. There is no evidence or data suggesting that increasing the number of AMs will lead to improved governance or better representation.

By signing this petition, we urge policymakers to reconsider their decision regarding increasing the number of Assembly Members in Wales. Instead, we demand that the allocated funds be redirected towards addressing the pressing issues faced by our NHS, education system, and infrastructure.
Let's prioritize the needs of our citizens and ensure that every penny is spent wisely for the betterment of Wales. Together, we can make a difference!
