Stop Walmart from Harming or Euthanizing Cats In Their Vicinity

Stop Walmart from Harming or Euthanizing Cats In Their Vicinity
The Issue
Like most people in the community, the cats that have made the surrounding area of our local Walmart their home have a special place in my heart. These cats, peaceful and unobtrusive, live in a fenced area full of sticker bushes that is largely avoided by humans. The existence of these cats has never caused any significant issues. In fact, the concern of community members, including myself, leans more towards the piles of trash and discarded needles left behind by the homeless population in the area.
Recently, it has come to our attention that Walmart corporate is considering actions that may harm or, even worse, result in the euthanasia of these cats. This is unacceptable. Euthanasia should be a last resort for animals that are suffering, not a first reaction to such a benign issue. Notably, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) stipulates that euthanasia must only be performed by trained personnel following recommended protocols [1].
Furthermore, cats offer certain benefits as they are known to play a pivotal role in controlling pests such as rodents [2]. Losing them to an inhumane action not only hurts those who care about them but could upset the local ecosystem.
We implore corporate to reconsider this decision, and instead, work with local animal rescue organizations or shelters to find a more humane solution. This might involve capturing, neutering, and releasing them back into the wild as recommended by the Humane Society of The United States [3].
We understand the need for businesses to maintain a safe and clean environment, but harming these innocent creatures is not the solution. Kindly join us to ensure the cats continue to co-exist without any harm. Sign the petition to save these cats' lives.
