Recently, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse has decided to adapt a new tip share format. We now have to tip out line cooks, hosts and an expo. They have taken our support staff away (food runners and in some restaurants beverage runners). Apart from this, servers are getting cut down to a 4 table section and if a table decides not to tip them on their visit, the server is still required to make up the tip for those sales. There’s no way for the server to subtract those sales. This is where the wage theft is happening. We are automatically required to tip out 4% (3.2% from the bartenders) of our sales regardless of the sales we get stiffed on. 

Before this change, non-tipped team members (hosts and line cooks) were allowed a free team member meal. And even now with them getting tipped out, they still continue to get their free team member meals whereas the servers still have to pay for their meals. Even the bussers who are now getting tipped less than the line cooks will still have to pay for their team member meals. How are the servers supposed to live off of this? Bjs restaurant and brewhouse is flagrantly disregarding California labor laws and regulations when it comes to wage compensation and tips and instead they are making their servers responsible for their own actions of not wanting to pay compensation to kitchen staff members and other employees. Please sign the petition to demand Bj’s restaurant and brewhouse inc. be held responsible for their obvious wage theft from their servers and lack of compensation for their other staff.
