Stop visa workers from displacing American workers in America and off shoring
The Issue
Recently, I faced a significant and unexpected life change that has truly opened my eyes to a growing problem affecting countless hardworking Americans. The company I dedicated years of my life to decided to move my job offshore. Alongside many of my colleagues, I found myself laid off due to this decision. This isn't just my story; it is a testament to a troubling trend impacting many other Americans who are being replaced or displaced due to the influx of work visas allowing foreign workers to take jobs that could be filled by local, qualified candidates.
Work visas such as H-1B, L-1, and others have been designed with the intention of filling gaps in the American labor market by bringing in specialized talent. However, these programs are often misused by companies seeking to cut costs, and foreigners use these visas to come to America taking American jobs at the expense of talented American workers. A report from the Economic Policy Institute highlighted that many of these visa programs are often not tapping into genuine labor shortages, but are instead used to outsource jobs that could be sourced domestically.
According to research, between 300,000 and 500,000 IT jobs have been moved offshore, displacing American workers and many Americans have been displaced at home by visas workers coming into the US. This is a staggering number, considering the quality and proficiency of the local labor force. The lack of stringent checks and balances allows large corporations to exploit these visa programs and significantly affect lives and communities in devastating ways.
What we are asking for is to stop and completely abolishment of work visas until a reformation of the system. It's crucial to ensure these visas are only utilized genuinely for roles where there are significant skill shortages that cannot be addressed by domestic talent. We urge lawmakers to tighten the criteria for handing out these visas and enforce stricter penalties for companies that abuse the system.
By making small, effective changes in the policies surrounding work visas, we can ensure that while America remains a place for growth and opportunity, it remains fair first and foremost to its American citizens. The goal is to maintain a fair balance in employment opportunities between domestic workers and foreign labor when it's genuinely needed.
Please join me in urging lawmakers to save American jobs from being unnecessarily outsourced. By signing this petition, you are supporting a fairer job market for all Americans. Please help make a difference by adding your voice to this urgent issue. Sign the petition today and make your voice heard!
