The inmates currently housed in Ely State Prison have started a hunger strike on December 1st

They are asking for support in their peaceful protest against

- AR & OP violations

- solitary confinement

- stacking sanctions

- use of unreliable tests on mail

- frivolous write-ups to keep inmates on HRP

- small food portions

- unsafe conditions (ceilings falling down in some of the units)

- black mold 

These are just a few of the issues that these inmates endure on a daily basis 

The medical and mental health staff is negligent in their response times, or don't respond at all. If a button is pushed signaling "man-down" the staff either doesn't respond or are slow in responding, and when they do come, they sometimes take light of the situation by laughing instead of reacting

While in solitary confinement, the inmates are not given the hour of yard time, or any time out of their cel at all. The excuse/reason given is staffing shortage. They always have enough staff to perform their cel searches, cel extractions, or any other time it's for their convenience. 

Ely State Prison is the only prison in Nevada that does not offer food drives for the inmates

HRP is on a set schedule and not on a time release schedule keeping inmates in solitary confinement longer than their disciplinary time

SINCE STARTING THIS HUNGER STRIKE THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS HAVE STARTED RETALIATING the inmates are exercising their right to a peaceful protest. During this protest they are to be weighed daily. The CO's are using this weigh-in time to harass the inmates by taking their food, their coffee, destroying their cells, ripping down their lines. Why are the inmates being professional in this protest and the "professionals" that work there are trying to provoke them into violence? This must be stopped! The prison also changed the inmates phone pins without notice to try and keep them silent by not allowing them pins to call out with.
