The Issue

Living in the immediate vicinity of the proposed Verizon cell tower site in Hope, NJ, my family and I are increasingly anxious about the potential environmental and health risks that such an installation may pose. Our concerns extend beyond our immediate home to our broader community, as we fear a visible deterioration of property values and the serene environment that defines our neighborhoods.

Cell towers, while essential for communication, have been scrutinized for their potential negative impacts on human health and the environment. Numerous studies have raised questions about the long-term exposure to radiofrequency radiation, suggesting possible links to various health issues. Although the science is still evolving, the possibility, however small, is unsettling for those of us living so close.

Furthermore, our concerns include the adverse impact on property values. Communities with nearby cell towers have reported noticeable declines in property prices due to perceived health risks and the reduction of visual appeal that towers often bring with their imposing presence.

Our community of Hope, as well as those in neighboring Knowlton, are unique, characterized by their small-town charm and rural landscapes. Allowing a cell tower could potentially compromise not only our immediate quality of life but the intrinsic value of our towns. It could shift the trajectory of our development in ways we are neither prepared for nor welcoming of.

We understand the need for improved communications infrastructure; however, we believe that there are alternative solutions that do not necessitate placing a tower in residential areas. Options such as small cell technology or placing the tower in industrial zones are viable and worth exploring to maintain the balance between technological advancement and community welfare.

We urge the officials of Hope and Knowlton to carefully consider these points before approving the tower's construction. Listen to the concerns of the residents who stand to be most affected by this decision. Please sign this petition to voice our collective opposition to Verizon’s proposed cell tower in our residential zones.
