Stop using Quizlet in Spanish class in Poca, WV

The Issue

In our Spanish class here at Poca, West Virginia, many of us students have been struggling with the current methods of learning, particularly the heavy reliance on Quizlet. From my personal experience, Quizlet is supposed to be a helpful tool, but it often feels overwhelming and stressful instead. The way it's currently utilized in our curriculum makes learning Spanish more difficult rather than enhancing our understanding of the language.

Quizlet's format of endless flashcards and quizzes doesn't cater to all learning styles. Some of us learn better through interactive conversation, listening and speaking exercises, or even traditional written assignments that allow us to process the information more effectively. Our diverse classroom needs a more inclusive approach that acknowledges different ways of learning and doesn't just rely on a one-size-fits-all digital tool.

Research has shown that students learn languages more effectively through varied methods that include cultural immersion elements, engaging dialogues, and interactive activities. According to various educational studies, methods that include these interaction-based strategies also help in retaining the new language longer. It's time to implement these strategies in our Spanish class.

Moreover, it's important to consider that not all students have equal access to the technology required to consistently use Quizlet outside of school hours. This further exacerbates the issue by adding pressure to those who may not have Internet access or who struggle with technical barriers.

We are urging our school to rethink the dependency on Quizlet in our Spanish learning. We need a more balanced approach that combines both traditional and digital methods, taking into consideration the distinct needs of every student in our class.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a positive change in our Spanish class curriculum that benefits all students in Poca, WV. Let's create a learning environment where everyone can succeed!
