Stop Using Property Taxes for Community College Funding

The Issue

I am a long-time resident, paying taxes on my home for many years, with a significant portion being allocated to the local community college - DCC. However, this practice brings me no direct benefits. As a taxpayer, I believe it is essential that our money be utilized in ways that benefit all members of our community.

I am not alone in this thought. Many neighborhoods across the U.S are burdened by heavy property taxes, and often, taxpayers do not see a direct return on these investments, especially when a large amount goes to community colleges. According to the American Association of Community Colleges, homeowners contribute an average of 32% of the total revenue of community colleges.

But what exactly does the community college do for us? While it is true that community colleges play a vital role in education, not all residents make use of or benefit from these facilities. Why should such a large portion of our hard-earned money be directed towards them when other public utilities, infrastructure, and services could similarly use these funds?

Therefore, I am calling for a reevaluation and fair distribution of property taxes in our locality. We need a structure that considers the needs of all residents and not just a segment of our population. If you resonate with this concern, join me in this petition. It's time for our voices to be heard, our wishes to be implemented, and for our hard-earned money to take us further. Please, sign this petition.
