Stop using Wild Animals at Siggraph 2017

The Issue

To the organisers of 2017’s Siggraph

It is shocking and regrettable that Siggraph has chosen to use a young giraffe as the subject of life drawing sessions taking place during this year's conference.

Organisers clearly did not considered the distress that this type of indoor activity may inflict on a wild animal and the prolonged and unnatural conditions it had to endure solely for the purpose of accommodating such gratuitous and pretentious entertaining. In this day and age it is degrading and regressive that a cutting-edge organisation like Siggraph sees fit and interesting to use a wild animal in that environment.

Lately, well-known campaigns have been successful in raising awareness to the use and treatment of live animals in motion pictures, commercials and TV shows. This greatly attests not only an ongoing, progressive trend, but also the increasing commitment and preference of the Visual Effects industry as a whole in creating CG images of animals rather than using live ones.

Please sign this petition to stop this kind of practices. This will send a clear message to the Siggraph organisers and other organisations that the unethical use of live animals has no place in our world today.

Thanks so much for your support
