We are the tenants of the Olympic View Apartments. We have received notice that our rent will increase between 30-70% (up to $800!) as of 1/1/2023. Many of us worry about being forced out of the city, going into debt, and have needed to work additional jobs to prepare for the increase. These rent increases are unjust given the conditions of the building, amongst other problems.

 
The building is unmaintained: 
● Windows/sliding glass doors are improperly sealed and leak causing mold, which will lead to health issues.

● Improperly sealed windows/sliding glass door causing expensive electrical bill

● Some unit pipes don't work properly, causing plumbing problems, including leaking pipes in the garage.

● Some of the unit's carpets haven’t been replaced in a very long time, some since moving in over 30 years ago.

● Maintenance requests are ignored for months. Maintenance is understaffed. Our rent should fund basic maintenance and livability in the building. 

Everyone has the right to safe, healthy, and affordable housing. If we don't fight these rent increases and poor conditions now, they will continue to increase rent year by year and continue to allow the building to deteriorate, putting us all at risk.

Coming together, we can improve conditions in our homes and fight to live in Seattle. This petition is the start to building tenant power to negotiate new leases before the increases are set to begin.
