Stop unjust child removals in Tennessee
The Issue
On October 28th, 2025, my world turned upside down. The state of Tennessee took my precious children away from me, despite my unwavering dedication as a mother. I'm heartbroken that despite my commitment to providing a safe and nurturing home, my children were placed with foster families, separating our family unit without just cause.
I can confidently say that I have never engaged in activities that would endanger my children; I don't use drugs or engage in any behavior that would warrant such drastic measures. However, the system continues to fail me. I do not receive any visitation rights, and instead of reuniting our family, new conditions and complications are continuously added to my case, making it feel impossible to bring my children back home where they belong.
My story is not isolated. Many other loving, responsible, and diligent mothers in Tennessee are also experiencing this unjust treatment. It’s crucial to acknowledge that while no parent is perfect, taking children away from caring and loving homes should not be a first resort. Every child deserves the love and care of their biological parent when such an environment can be safely provided.
We need to reform the child welfare practices in Tennessee to prioritize keeping families intact when parents are dedicated to providing a safe, loving home. The threshold for removing children from their homes must be carefully considered, ensuring that decisions are backed by clear evidence of harm or potential harm. Additionally, transparency in the process and the right to significant visitation must be upheld unless it's proven unsafe for the children.
Let’s call on Tennessee's Department of Children's Services to reassess their approach. Our systems need stronger checks and balances to prevent unnecessary family separations. We demand a fair chance for parents like myself to demonstrate their ability to raise their children, ensuring that all families can remain whole unless it's genuinely unsafe.
