Recently, Hillingdon Council has proposed significant rent increases for the independent businesses that call Mulberry Parade home. Some businesses are facing rent hikes of around 100%, and one retailer is looking at an increase of a staggering 184%. This is not just a number; it’s a threat to our livelihoods and the heart of our community. They aren’t just threatening rent increases they are threatening to backdate the changes to up to 4 years ago leaving the tenants in thousands of pounds worth of arrears. 

Unless a change is made, businesses will struggle to survive, and closures are inevitable. Our trusted chemist has already been issued an eviction notice, leaving many without their local healthcare supplies. This could soon be the fate of other cherished local businesses.

We understand that costs rise and adjustments are necessary, but doubling the rent is an unsustainable solution. It’s crucial for the Council to engage in a dialogue with us, the tenants, and work towards fair, sustainable rents that allow these businesses to flourish without compromising their future. Our local shops provide jobs, support families, and maintain the vibrant atmosphere of our neighborhood.
