Stop Unfair Overnight Parking Fees and Street Cleaning Rules in East Orange, NJ

The Issue

I have lived in East Orange for the last 29 years, and this parking situation has been a burden for far too long. The city charges residents for overnight parking from Sunday through Saturday in residential areas. Additionally, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 9 am and 12 pm, we are required to move our vehicles for street cleaning. This is especially unfair to elderly residents, disabled individuals, and those working from home.

On these days, we often face extreme weather conditions—be it heat waves or rainstorms—and are forced to park our cars on different blocks if there is any available space at all. Then we have to walk back home under these harsh conditions. Despite paying for parking permits regularly, failure to move our cars results in accumulating tickets that many of us on fixed incomes simply cannot afford.

Our block remains clean because the residents take pride in maintaining it ourselves; by the time street cleaners arrive, we've already done their job by picking up what garbage collectors leave behind.

We need a change now! Please sign this petition to urge the city of East Orange to reconsider these unfair parking fees and street cleaning rules that disproportionately affect its most vulnerable residents.
