Stop Unfair Dress Code Stigmatization at BRMHS

Stop Unfair Dress Code Stigmatization at BRMHS
The Issue
At Baton Rouge Magnet High School our Dress Code unfairly targets girls especially those that are a part of minority groups or curvier than average. On many occasions multiple different students have witnessed pupils that do not fit in these categories have not gotten dresscoded for these violations. For those that do get dresscoded get sent to TOR (time out room) which forces students to miss class (unless their parents can provide them with a change of of clothes) as a punishment causing the student to lose valuable instruction that they can't make up. Also if the student has a change of clothes in their locker they still would have to sit in the TOR room for the rest of the academic day. Furthermore, "questionable attire" that is not explicitly stated in the handbook is up to the discretion of the school which allows an easy way for students to be discriminated against. An example of this is one student was told that since the violation was not explicitly stated in the handbook it automatically wasn't allowed. THIS MUST BE STOPPED. These policies harm students more than help them and promotes the adultification of students bodies. These policies can also hinder their education considering that their 8th violation causes them to lose their magnet status. Please help us change these policies. Thank you
